Madrid, June 16 (NationPress) The Provincial Court of Madrid has found four fans guilty who, in 2023, displayed a black inflatable doll wearing the jersey of Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr from a bridge, mimicking a hanging. The ruling, released on Monday, includes sentences of one year and ten months for one defendant and one year and two months for the others.
This shocking incident occurred just hours prior to the Copa del Rey quarter-final clash between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.
The accused also unfurled a massive banner at the scene, proclaiming their disdain for Real Madrid with the phrase, ‘Madrid hates Real.’
One of the offenders publicly shared details of the act on social media.
The club confirmed that the individuals acknowledged their wrongdoing, expressed remorse, and offered public apologies. Each was convicted of a hate crime and for threatening Vinicius Jr.
In addition to prison time, the offenders face fines and will be prohibited from engaging in any professions linked to education and sports for three years. They are also banned from coming within 1,000 meters of Vinicius Jr or communicating with him for four years.
Moreover, the four will not be permitted to attend any football matches during this period and must complete a training program on equal treatment and non-discrimination.
“This verdict adds to numerous others issued recently against racist abuse directed at Real Madrid CF players at stadiums like Zorrilla (Valladolid), Mestalla (Valencia), Son Moix (Palma de Mallorca), and Vallecas (Madrid), as well as on online platforms. In total, fourteen individuals have now been criminally convicted for racist assaults against our players,” said the club in a statement.
