Barcelona, April 21 (NationPress) FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is optimistic that his team received the ‘wake-up call’ they needed after their comeback victory against Celta Vigo in their latest match.
Despite being down three goals to one in the 62nd minute, Barcelona staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 4-3 win, clinching the match with a last-minute goal by Raphinha.
With only six games remaining in the La Liga season, Barca is positioned four points ahead of Real Madrid and is on track to pursue their third treble, as the club prepares to face Los Blancos in the final of the Copa Del Rey and meet Inter Milan in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
“It’s been challenging. We must fight until the very end. Winning every game is not simple. La Liga is highly competitive. I hope to avoid dropping points until the season concludes, and we’ll do everything in our power. When we underperform, as we did against Celta, it’s tough. I hope this serves as a wake-up call to progress positively. The journey is long, and Real Madrid is an exceptional team that will also strive to meet its objectives,” Flick stated.
Striker Robert Lewandowski has sustained an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh, which is likely to keep the Polish forward sidelined for the upcoming Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid on April 27.
While the club has not specified a timeline for Lewandowski’s recovery, he is expected to be unavailable for two to three weeks and may also miss the semi-final clash against Inter Milan, with the first leg scheduled for May 1 (IST).
This season has been remarkable for Lewandowski, who has scored 40 goals in 48 matches across La Liga, the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup: 25 in La Liga, 11 in the Champions League, three in the Copa del Rey, and one in the Super Cup.
Flick recognized the significance of Lewandowski's absence while expressing confidence in Ferran Torres stepping up for the upcoming matches.
“I hope he can contribute during the final stretch. When he’s available, it will be great, but we are uncertain about his recovery timeline, so I don’t want to speculate,” Flick remarked.
“Managing this situation is crucial. He is at a peak in his career. He’s exceptional. The number 9 position is his. He possesses speed and excellent ball control. He assists defensively and adds dynamism. We need him until the season's end,” he concluded.
