Madrid (Spain), Oct. 17 (NationPress) FC Barcelona's head coach Hansi Flick chose to avoid discussing injury challenges as his team gears up to clash with Girona in La Liga this Saturday.
Prior to the international break, Barcelona slid to second place in the La Liga standings following a significant 4-1 loss to Sevilla. Recently, Flick has had to cope with the absence of key players such as Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, and Dani Olmo due to injuries, while Pedri has also experienced a demanding schedule with Spain's national squad.
"I can't alter the circumstances, and it's essential for us to discover solutions," Flick expressed during his pre-match press conference on Friday. He also mentioned that while Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal are available, "they are not fit to play for the full 90 minutes."
The coach also addressed midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who recently signed a new contract, as well as Pedri. "Frenkie has had more rest days; Pedri has had fewer. We need to be cautious with Pedri," he noted, emphasizing that both players represented their nations as they are among the world's elite.
Flick reacted strongly to speculation that he fielded Yamal in the recent Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain at the club's request, even when the young player was not in optimal condition.
"That is absolute nonsense, and I would like to trace the origin of this rumor. They would never pressure us to act in such a way. It’s false, and anyone claiming this is not telling the truth," Flick asserted. He added that both he and the players are dissatisfied with plans to host the La Liga match against Villarreal in Miami the weekend before Christmas.
"Ultimately, it's up to La Liga to make such decisions, and we must comply," he concluded.
In other fixtures this Saturday, Sevilla will face Mallorca, Villarreal will clash with Real Betis, and Atletico Madrid will go head-to-head with Osasuna.
On Sunday, Eiche will compete against Athletic Bilbao, Celta Vigo will meet Real Sociedad, Levante will challenge Rayo Vallecano, and Getafe will take on Real Madrid.
