Fritz and Gauff Propel USA into United Cup Quarterfinals

Perth, Dec 31 (NationPress) Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff propelled the USA into the United Cup quarterfinals after a commanding 3-0 victory against Croatia on Tuesday.
Fritz cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Borna Coric, securing the top position for the USA in Group A and ensuring their qualification for the quarterfinals, where they are set to compete against China on New Year’s Day. Following this, Gauff delivered a stunning performance against Donna Vekic to finalize the tie before collaborating with Fritz for their second mixed doubles win of the week.
“I feel like I’m a completely different player compared to when we played before. It’s fantastic to achieve that win, especially after the other day when I was a set and break up against Auger-Aliassime,” Fritz expressed regarding his singles victory.
Gauff achieved a convincing 6-4, 6-2 victory over Vekic, marking the Americans’ second win in consecutive round-robin matches at the season-opening United Cup.
“I’m really pleased with my performance today. She’s an exceptional player, and the loss at the Olympics stung, so I kept that in mind today as motivation to improve. The game I was broken in, she played remarkably well. I have no regrets about that match... but I’m very satisfied with my serving and my competitiveness throughout the match,” Gauff stated after the match.
Gauff and Fritz completed a clean sweep for the American team by defeating Petra Marcinko and Ivan Dodig 6-2, 6-3 in mixed doubles. The Americans successfully saved all three break points they encountered, according to ATP Stats, while breaking their opponents’ serve on four occasions.
