Gumi (South Korea), May 30 (NationPress) India's long-distance athlete Gulveer Singh achieved his second gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships by winning the men’s 5000m with a remarkable Championship Record on Friday.
After securing the men’s 10,000m gold on the competition's opening day, Gulveer clocked an impressive 13:24.78, breaking the previous championship record of 13:34.47 set by Mohamed Al-Garni in 2015. This victory earned him the gold medal in the 5000m event.
The 26-year-old from Uttar Pradesh had previously secured a bronze in the same event during the last edition held in Bangkok.
In March, the bronze medallist from the Hangzhou Asian Games improved his own men’s 10,000m national record, finishing in 27:00.22s at The Ten 2025 athletics meet. Earlier this year, Gulveer Singh also set the men’s 3000m indoor national record and the Asian 5000m short track record at an athletics meet in Boston.
In the women's high jump, Pooja earned a gold medal with a season-best jump of 1.89m, simultaneously breaking her own Under-20 national record. The 18-year-old became the second Indian ever to medal in high jump at the Asian Championships, following Bobby Aloysius, who won gold in 2000 and silver in 2002.
Nandini Agasara then contributed to the gold tally by winning the women's heptathlon with 5941 points.
Earlier in the day, Parul Chaudhary achieved a silver medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, setting a new national record with a time of 9:12.46. She previously held the record of 9:13.39, established at the 2025 Doha Diamond League.
Meanwhile, Animesh Kujur advanced to the final of the men's 200m event, finishing second in the semifinal with a time of 20.81s.
