New Delhi, Oct 2 (NationPress) In a dramatic turn of events at the World Championships, India's 19-year-old Haney experienced disappointment during his debut in the men’s Discus Throw F37 final. Despite being in contention for a medal from his very first throw, he ultimately fell short as Japan’s Yamato Shimbo surged from fourth place to secure silver in the final round, pushing the athlete from Rohtak out of the medal standings on Thursday.
Initially, Haney took the lead after the first round with a throw of 51.22m, but he could not improve his performance in subsequent attempts. Mexico’s Luis Carlos Lopez established a new Championships Record with a throw of 56.59m on his second attempt, while Mykola Zhabnyak from Ukraine moved ahead with a distance of 52.70m in the fourth round.
Yamato Shimbo delivered a personal best of 54.50m on his final attempt, leaving Haney in fourth place.
