Key Takeaways
Hobart, Mar 1 (NationPress) Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged that her team struggled with consistency and performed poorly in the ODI format following a significant 185-run defeat to Australia in the third ODI held at the Bellerive Oval on Sunday.
In pursuit of a daunting target of 410 runs, India was all out for 224 in just 45.1 overs, resulting in Australia achieving a clean 3-0 series victory and taking an 8-2 advantage in the overall multi-format series.
“Overall, we did not play well in this series. While we executed our plans effectively in T20s, our performance in ODIs fell short,” Harmanpreet stated in her post-match comments.
Emphasizing the distinction between the formats, the Indian skipper noted that maintaining consistency is crucial in 50-over cricket.
“ODI cricket demands endurance, requiring teams to execute their strategies repeatedly. We made too many errors throughout the series,” Harmanpreet elaborated.
She also extended her praise to the Australian team for their commanding performance. “The credit goes to the Australian squad; they played exceptionally well and did not allow us any opportunities to recover,” she remarked.
Despite facing this challenge, the Indian captain highlighted that the series provided valuable insights for future matches.
“There are many lessons to take away, and we will definitely reflect on how to improve in ODI cricket,” the 36-year-old expressed.
With limited time to regroup before the upcoming iconic test match in Perth, Harmanpreet emphasized the importance of maintaining mental resilience.
“It is vital to keep everyone in a positive mindset. Although our preparation time is short, it’s essential to believe in ourselves and focus on performing well as a team,” she concluded.
The Indian women's team will conclude their tour with a test match against Australia scheduled at the Perth Stadium starting March 6.
