Leeds, June 25 (NationPress) Seam-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana has officially been released from India’s squad ahead of the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series as the team heads to Birmingham. According to sources from IANS, Rana is currently making his way back to India from Leeds.
Initially, Rana was included in India's squad for the first Test in Leeds, which saw England clinch victory by five wickets after chasing down 371 on a nail-biting final day at Headingley.
“One of the pacers in the main Test team had a slight injury. The team management needed a back-up bowler capable of implementing a bouncer-led strategy, and Rana was deemed a suitable choice,” sources added.
“Now that the situation has stabilized, Rana has been released from the squad, which is why he wasn’t seen traveling with the team to Birmingham,” the sources further stated.
Rana made his Test debut during the previous year’s tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, where he recorded just four wickets with an average of 50.75, his best performance being 3-48 in Perth. In England, he participated in the first match for India ‘A’ against England Lions at Canterbury, returning figures of 1-99 and scoring 16 runs.
Meanwhile, Wednesday served as a travel day for the Shubman Gill-led Indian team. The players will enjoy a day off on Thursday, with training sessions scheduled to commence on Friday in preparation for the second Test, starting on July 2 at Edgbaston.
With England currently leading 1-0 in the five-match series, India faces a significant challenge to recover, especially after a disappointing defeat in Leeds, despite achieving five centuries and a five-wicket haul.
India is in England for a five-match Test series, marking their first appearance in the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.
