Previously, CM Saini and Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam inaugurated a synthetic hockey ground built at an expense of approximately Rs 5.50 crore under the Khelo India Scheme by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Additionally, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for an all-weather swimming pool project estimated at Rs 8 crore also under the Khelo India Scheme.
Post-inauguration, CM Saini and Sports Minister Gautam engaged in a hockey match on the newly installed synthetic turf.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the synthetic hockey ground will now offer emerging hockey players the opportunity to develop their skills in a world-class environment.
Motivating the athletes, he assured that the government is devoted to enhancing sports and fortifying sports infrastructure.
While conversing with university officials, the Chief Minister expressed optimism that through the Union government's Khelo India Scheme, state athletes will continue to excel, winning additional medals at the Olympics and on international platforms, thus bringing greater pride to the nation.
The Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Somnath Sachdeva, welcomed the Chief Minister and provided insights into the synthetic hockey astroturf developed under the Khelo India Scheme.
He noted that a budget of Rs 10 crore was allocated by the Union Ministry of Sports.
Of that, Rs 5.50 crore has been utilized for the hockey ground, with plans for a multipurpose indoor sports hall to be constructed at a cost of Rs 4.50 crore.
