Kurukshetra, Jan 22 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, announced on Thursday that the state government is investing in top-tier infrastructure for athletes to aid them in securing medals during the Olympics.
To uncover and nurture the latent athletic talent in the region, the government has set up sports nurseries in conjunction with various sports facilities.
Additionally, the government has guaranteed world-class amenities for athletes, which has led to Haryana's athletes winning the highest number of medals for the nation, he stated.
The Chief Minister engaged with athletes during an event hosted by the administration of Kurukshetra University at its sports complex.
Earlier, CM Saini and Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam inaugurated a synthetic hockey field, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 5.50 crore under the Khelo India Scheme from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The Chief Minister also laid the groundwork for an all-weather swimming pool set to be built with an investment of Rs 8 crore under the same scheme.
After the inauguration, both CM Saini and Minister Gautam participated in a game of hockey on the newly installed synthetic turf.
The Chief Minister remarked that this synthetic hockey field will now equip budding hockey players with elite facilities to refine their abilities.
He encouraged athletes by reaffirming the government's dedication to advancing sports and enhancing sports infrastructure.
While conversing with university officials, the Chief Minister emphasized that through the Union's Khelo India Scheme, athletes from the state will secure more medals at the Olympics and on international stages, thereby enhancing the country’s prestige.
The Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Somnath Sachdeva, welcomed the Chief Minister and provided insights regarding the synthetic hockey astroturf developed under the Khelo India Scheme.
He noted that the Union Ministry of Sports allocated a total budget of Rs 10 crore, with Rs 5.50 crore spent on the hockey field, and a multipurpose indoor sports hall is set to be constructed at a cost of Rs 4.50 crore.
