New Delhi, April 14 (NationPress) Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden provided his perspective on how the Chennai Super Kings might approach their upcoming match against the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. He emphasized that making substantial changes goes against the essence of the five-time champions, suggesting they are more likely to adhere to their straightforward philosophy of “believe in yourselves and trust the process”.

Currently, CSK finds itself at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with only one victory from six matches, and they are eager for a revival when they take on LSG at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday evening.

"I doubt we’ll witness significant changes - it’s simply not part of CSK’s DNA. Their strategy will probably be: believe in yourselves, trust the process. They may not be the side to score 60 in the powerplay, but they must identify a way to stand out.

"Without adjustments, it leads to insanity - repeating the same actions while expecting different outcomes. Whether they will recognize and respond to this remains unclear, but something evidently needs to change," Hayden remarked on JioHotstar.

CSK started strongly with a victory over the Mumbai Indians but has since faced five consecutive losses against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders -- marking a first in the tournament's history.

Additionally, for the first time, CSK has suffered three straight losses at their home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

They have also lost their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad due to an elbow fracture, with MS Dhoni stepping in as captain during his absence, while Ayush Mhatre, a 17-year-old opener from Mumbai, will join the team as Gaikwad's replacement.

Dhoni's return as captain, following Gaikwad's injury, could not bring about a turnaround in CSK's last match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Head coach Stephen Fleming acknowledged that Dhoni's reinstatement as captain would not magically change the team's situation overnight, stating, “He hasn't got a magic wand.”

“MS has stepped up. His impact will always be significant, but he doesn't possess a magic wand. It’s about us working diligently alongside MS to turn things around. Certainly, in both our cricketing careers, we have faced situations demanding a lot of effort, and we need to ensure that energy is directed appropriately,” Fleming mentioned in a pre-match press conference.
