During the previous matches, Hazlewood secured 18 wickets in 10 matches, boasting an impressive average of 17.27 and an economy rate of 8.44, ranking him as the fourth top wicket-taker in the league. His last appearance for RCB was against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 27, before a shoulder strain sidelined him from subsequent games.
For the Qualifier 1, Hazlewood has replaced Nuwan Thushara, who had a debut performance of 1-26 in his four overs against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday. “As a player, this is the moment you aspire for; it’s truly exhilarating. It’s fantastic to have Hazlewood back, and I hope he continues from where he left off,” Salt mentioned in a pre-match interview with broadcasters.
RCB has clinched a top-two position in the IPL points table for the first time since 2016, following a remarkable chase of 228 against LSG.
“That chase against Lucknow Super Giants was remarkable. The pitch was in great condition for batting in Lucknow. The way our middle-order executed the chase after we set the target was almost a dream scenario for pursuing a hefty score,” Salt added.
Entering the Qualifier 1 match with just a day’s rest, Salt believes the team is primed to give their utmost for a chance to compete in the title match on June 3. “We have no option but to do that.”
“Considering the circumstances, our focus must solely be on finishing the game. We need to recover, board the plane, and get back into action quickly. Reaching this stage of the competition is gratifying, irrespective of our opponent,” he concluded.
