New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) Evaluating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) strategic moves during the IPL 2026 player auction, head coach Andy Flower expressed enthusiasm about the addition of New Zealand's Jacob Duffy, highlighting that the dynamic bowler possesses a strong pedigree at the death.

RCB entered the auction with a budget of Rs 16.4 crore and secured a total of eight players. The newest members of the reigning champions' roster include Venkatesh Iyer, Jacob Duffy, Satwik Desal, Mangesh Yadav, Jordan Cox, Vicky Ostwal, Kanishk Chouhan, and Vihaan Malhotra.

Addressing the enhancements to the batting lineup, Flower remarked, “We recognize Bethel's caliber, and Cox, who has had an exceptional year with the bat, is a valuable player. He can bat in any position, serves as a keeper-batter, and is among the world's best fielders. This kind of talent is thrilling to have ready for their opportunity.”

On the subject of the bowling squad, Flower acknowledged the contributions of retained players and the increased depth now present. “We witnessed Nuwan Thushara's potential last year when he had his chance in Lucknow. He played a crucial role in our qualification for the top two. We understand his capabilities with both the new ball and his unique yorker and slower ball offerings.”

The head coach also emphasized the significance of Duffy's acquisition, noting the balance it adds to the lineup. “Bringing in Jacob Duffy is genuinely thrilling. He currently ranks as a top seamer in T20 international cricket and appears to be a promising talent. He is an attacking bowler during the powerplay and possesses a strong pedigree at the death, even as he is relatively new to the international stage.”

Focusing on overseas pace options, he stated, “We are genuinely excited to have him as a backup for Josh Hazlewood. This kind of exhilarating overseas talent provides reassurance for us as coaches and will be thrilling for our fans to witness when he performs.”

As preparations for the upcoming season commence, Flower underlined the necessity of communication and continuity. “As we approach IPL 2026, we will certainly keep in touch with our players. This is the approach that Mo Bobat and I prefer. Our specialized coaches will maintain contact with our players, we will familiarize ourselves with the new members, and we’ll communicate with our players throughout the year.”

Regarding the lead-up to the season, he added, “We now have clarity on the IPL 2026 start date, and the time before that is critical for building relationships with the players and ensuring the team moves cohesively, as we did last year. We eagerly anticipate this preparation time and the exciting journey ahead.”
