Shimla, Nov 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, declared a prize of Rs 1 crore for Indian pacer Renuka Thakur, who is from the Rohru region in Shimla district and played a significant role in the World Champion Indian Women's cricket team.

During a phone call, the Chief Minister congratulated Renuka and the entire Indian squad for their historic achievement in winning the World Cup for the first time. He mentioned that he personally witnessed the semi-final and final matches, praising the team's exceptional performance.

“The state takes immense pride in Renuka's achievement, which has brought honor to Himachal Pradesh on a global stage,” said the Chief Minister. He expressed his hope that her diligence and remarkable performance would inspire other young girls to pursue their dreams.

Overjoyed by her daughter's success, Renuka's mother, Sunita Thakur, emotionally expressed her wish for every parent to have a daughter like Renuka. She urged all parents to support their daughters' aspirations and to encourage them to shine.

Sunita recounted Renuka's childhood, where she played with a cloth ball and a wooden stick on local grounds. “My entire family rejoiced and prayed for India's victory,” she said, celebrating the historic win.

Renuka's brother, Vinod Thakur, proudly stated, “I am thrilled for my sister. We watched every moment of the match, and her bowling was outstanding. We’ve since reached out to her to extend our congratulations.”

Originating from the small village of Parsa in Rohru, Renuka has made her mark on the global stage. The Indian Women's Cricket Team triumphed in the Women's World Cup 2025, held in Mumbai, by defeating South Africa.
