Srinagar, Feb 28 (NationPress) The triumph of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket team on Saturday against Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy finals is not merely a well-earned victory, but it embodies the promise of success and optimism for the youth of the Union Territory. Their sporting talent is now gaining national recognition.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and NC MLA Tanvir Sadiq, was present in Karnataka's Hubballi on Friday to witness this historic moment as the Jammu and Kashmir team prepared to make history on Saturday.

Omar Abdullah expressed his desire to personally support and celebrate the Jammu and Kashmir team's victory.

Following the team's historic first-time win of the Ranji Trophy, the Chief Minister announced a cash prize of Rs 2 crore and job opportunities for players and support staff, labeling the achievement as a pivotal moment for cricket in the Union Territory.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha shared his excitement on X, stating, "The finest hour for Jammu and Kashmir has arrived! Emotions are overwhelming as I watch our Cricket team seize the Ranji Trophy."

"To every passionate player who has made history through their determination: thank you from an entire Union Territory overflowing with pride. You have created an enduring legacy—embrace it with dignity."

Upon announcing the reward, the Chief Minister's Office emphasized the broader implications of this triumph for the region's sports framework.

"Congratulations to Team J&K on their groundbreaking victory in the Ranji Trophy. The Chief Minister declared a cash reward of Rs 2 crore for players and support staff following their impressive win against Karnataka on their home ground. He described this milestone as a transformative event for Jammu & Kashmir cricket, stating that it has filled the entire region with pride and motivation. Players will also qualify for government positions under newly established guidelines for exceptional athletes," the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister's Office confirmed on X.

This victory marks Jammu and Kashmir's inaugural Ranji Trophy title in 66 years.

Celebrations erupted throughout the Union Territory upon hearing the news.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Jammu and Kashmir amassed a formidable score of 584 runs in 173.1 overs, showcasing a strong team effort.

Shubham Pundir led the innings with a steady 121 off 247 balls, while Yawer Hassan (88) and skipper Paras Dogra (70) provided solid support.

The middle order maintained the momentum with contributions from Abdul Samad (61) and wicketkeeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan (70), complemented by Sahil Lotra's crucial 72.

For Karnataka, Prasidh Krishna shone with a five-wicket haul, although the bowling attack faced challenges overall.

Karnataka was bowled out for 293 runs in 93.3 overs, resulting in a significant first-innings deficit of 291 runs.

Mayank Agarwal fought valiantly for Karnataka, scoring an impressive 160 runs, but lacked support from the rest of the batting order.

Jammu and Kashmir's bowling attack was spearheaded by Auqib Nabi Dar, who delivered a remarkable five-wicket haul (5/54), marking his seventh in the tournament.

Sunil Kumar and Yudhvir Singh Charak contributed with two wickets each, keeping Karnataka under relentless pressure.

With a commanding advantage, Jammu and Kashmir solidified their grip in the second innings, reaching 342/4 in 113 overs.

Qamran Iqbal excelled with an unbeaten 160, while Sahil Lotra capped off an excellent match with an unbroken 101, effectively closing the door on any Karnataka resurgence.

Although the final concluded in a draw, Jammu and Kashmir's substantial first-innings lead ensured a historic victory and the most coveted title in Indian domestic cricket.
