Ice Hockey League Kicks Off in Leh with 10 Men's and 5 Women's Teams Competing

Leh, Jan 3 (NationPress) The second edition of the Ice Hockey League is scheduled to unfold in Ladakh from January 4 to 13 at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium. This year, 10 men's and 5 women's teams will compete for the prestigious title. The league aims to capitalize on the success of its inaugural season, which attracted 6000 spectators, continuing to unite local talent from the surrounding areas.

The Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League (REIHL) 2025 will include a total of 30 matches, comprising 23 in the men’s category and 10 in the women’s, spread across a period of 10 days.

For the men’s segment, the 10 teams are divided into two groups of five each, with the top two teams moving on to the semifinals. The women’s competition will also follow a two-group round-robin format, featuring three teams in one group and two in the other, leading to semifinals and finals on January 12, while the men’s championship final is scheduled for January 13.

This league, taking place after the Losar festivities, seeks to foster community engagement and keep players active during the winter season. It forms part of Royal Enfield’s Social Mission in Ladakh, aimed at highlighting local talent and promoting ice hockey as a vital sport in the region.

To prepare for the league, Royal Enfield organized comprehensive training and scouting camps throughout Ladakh, including locations such as Drass, Zanskar, Nubra, Kargil, Shakar Chiktan, Leh, and Changthang. The players received coaching from experts who underwent specialized training in Delhi in December 2024, mentored by Darryl Easson, an IIHF-certified coach-instructor with experience coaching national teams in the UK and Hungary.
