New Delhi, Oct 7 (NationPress) The Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya engaged in a productive meeting with Yuvraj Singh, co-founder and Ambassador of the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL), along with CEO Uttam Mundy, at his office. The minister commended the initiatives aimed at advancing the game throughout India.

Set to launch in January 2026, the IGPL is the nation's inaugural franchise-based golf league and will include six franchises. This tournament is being organized in collaboration with the Indian Golf Union (IGU), the Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI), and the PGA of India. It will adopt a city-based franchise model, inviting both professional and amateur male and female golfers to participate in team competitions.

The conversation revolved around fostering the growth of golf in India and how IGPL resonates with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Khelo Bharat Neeti', a holistic initiative aimed at enhancing the sporting landscape at all levels.

During the dialogue, the Sports Minister highlighted the significance of grassroots sports development and illustrated how franchise-based tournaments could cultivate future talent.

The stakeholders of IGPL expressed their eagerness to contribute to the government’s grassroots programs while aligning with PM Modi's vision of 'Viksit Bharat'.

After the meeting, Yuvraj remarked, “The minister's encouragement serves as a great motivation for us to further our mission of making golf more accessible and popular throughout India. This marks a significant advancement for the sport, and we are dedicated to collaborating to nurture the next generation of golfers.”

Uttam Mundy expressed gratitude towards the minister for his backing, stating, "The minister's supportive remarks are a substantial boost for everyone involved with IGPL and a testament to the increasing interest in golf in our nation. Our collaboration with the government is crucial for discovering and nurturing future champions, bringing further glory to India."

With renowned figures like Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa, Gaganjeet Singh Bhullar, Gaurav Ghei, Shiv Kapur, and SSP Chawrasia confirmed as iconic stars, excitement is building for the inaugural edition of this innovative fast-paced professional golf format.

The IGPL also aims to deliver international-standard training and coaching to over 1 million school and college students over the next three years, marking a significant advancement in grassroots sports development with help from the Indian Golf Union.

In a collective effort to support flood relief, IGPL, with backing from golf legends, has recently pledged aid to victims affected by flooding in Punjab, aiming to provide essential supplies and financial assistance to those most impacted by the disaster.
