Imad Wasim Declares Retirement from International Cricket

New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has revealed his retirement from international cricket for the second time as of Friday. The 35-year-old cricketer has stated his intention to keep playing in domestic and franchise leagues globally.

Earlier in 2023, Imad had also declared his retirement from international cricket; however, his outstanding display in the Pakistan Super League, where he was awarded player of the match in all three playoff fixtures for the champions Islamabad United, led him to make a comeback to the T20 international scene.

He subsequently participated in the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the West Indies and the USA. Unfortunately, Pakistan faced an early exit from the tournament after suffering defeats against the USA and India in the group matches. His final international appearance was against Ireland during the T20 World Cup in June this year, after which he couldn't reclaim his spot in the national squad.

Imad represented Pakistan in 75 T20Is and 55 ODIs, amassing 1,540 runs and taking 117 wickets in the white-ball format, though he did not participate in Test cricket for Pakistan.

In his message to fans and supporters, he stated, “After considerable thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket. Representing Pakistan on the global stage has been the greatest honor of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable.” He continued, “Your unwavering support, love, and passion have always been my greatest strength. From the highs to the lows, your encouragement has motivated me to give my best for our beloved country. As this chapter closes, I look forward to continuing my cricket journey through domestic and franchise leagues and hope to keep entertaining you all in new ways. Thank you for everything, Pakistan.”
