This victory marked India’s second title in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars, having previously won the inaugural edition in 2023.
Tejal Hasabnis played a vital role by scoring an unbeaten half-century, allowing India A Women to successfully defend their ACC Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars title with a convincing 46-run victory against Bangladesh A Women in the final at the Terdthai Cricket Ground on Sunday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, India A posted a score of 134/7 in 20 overs, with Hasabnis contributing 51 runs off 34 balls. In response, Bangladesh A Women were bowled out for 88 runs in 19.1 overs.
India had a steady start, reaching 30 runs without losing a wicket in the first five overs. However, Bangladesh fought back, taking three quick wickets in the next two overs to put the defending champions under pressure.
Under the leadership of Fahima Khatun, Bangladesh struck again on the first ball of the eighth over, reducing India's score to 44/4. With the pressure rising, Hasabnis and captain Radha Yadav constructed a crucial 69-run partnership that steadied the innings and pushed India past the three-figure mark.
Hasabnis reached her fifty in 33 balls and remained not out at 51, hitting three fours and two sixes. Radha contributed 36 runs off 30 deliveries before being dismissed in the 17th over.
Chasing a target of 135, Bangladesh A Women got off to a shaky start, losing opener Ishma Tanjim in the third over. They managed only 36 runs during the power play. Promising wicketkeeper-batter Shamima Sultana was dismissed soon after the power play for 20 runs.
Sarmin Sultana (18) and Sadia Akter (10) tried to stabilize the innings, but both were removed within five balls. Bangladesh found themselves at 48/3 after 10 overs before a dramatic collapse against the Indian spinners led to three wickets falling in the next five overs. Ultimately, they were bowled out for 88 in 19.1 overs.
Prema Rawat was the star with the ball for India A, taking 3 wickets for just 12 runs, while Sonia Mendhiya and Tanuja Kanwer claimed two wickets each.
