Mackay, Oct 8 (NationPress) India’s U-19 team excelled against Australia U-19 in the second Youth Test, concluding the four-day match on Day 2 with a solid seven-wicket victory at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on Wednesday.
After India U19 displayed their dominance in the first Youth Test at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane, winning by an innings and 58 runs, their bowlers continued to shine in the second match, which wrapped up in just two days.
In the latest Test, only wicketkeeper Alex Lee Young showcased his batting abilities, receiving little backing from his teammates. His 108-ball 66 stood out in Australia's first innings as they were dismissed for just 135 runs in 43.3 overs.
The Patel brothers, Henil and Khilan, each claimed three wickets, while Udhav Mohan and Deepesh Devendran took two and one wicket, respectively, prior to India's batting innings.
India’s batting order also struggled, managing only 171 runs in 51.4 overs as Kasey Barton achieved a four-wicket haul. They only secured a lead of 36 runs before commencing their second innings.
Subsequently, the hosts could only muster 116 runs before the Indian bowlers ended their innings, setting an 81-run target for victory. Despite opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi being dismissed for a golden duck, the young batsmen reached the target in 12.2 overs, with Vedant Trivedi contributing an unbeaten 33.
This marked a swift victory for India U-19. The Australian batting lineup failed to capitalize on familiar conditions in Brisbane during the first game, managing scores of 243 and 127 across their two innings, ultimately losing by an innings and 58 runs.
