Mumbai, Feb 7 (NationPress) India is set to commence their T20 World Cup title defense against the United States of America as the two teams clash in their campaign opener at the renowned Wankhede Stadium this Saturday.

India enjoys a significant advantage over the USA in T20 internationals, having emerged victorious in their only previous matchup. This solitary clash took place on March 25, 2024, in Nassau, showcasing India's superiority in both batting and bowling.

After winning the toss, India chose to field first, a decision that paid off handsomely. The USA struggled to gain traction and ended their innings at 110/8 in their 20 overs. Notable contributions came from Nitish Kumar (23 runs) and Steven Taylor (24 runs), while Corey Anderson added 15 runs. However, it was Arshdeep Singh who stole the show with a match-winning performance, taking 4 wickets for 9 runs, supported by Hardik Pandya's 2 wickets for 14 runs.

For the USA, Andries Gous is likely to make a comeback after missing their last T20I, the North America T20 Cup final in April, and will resume his role as both wicketkeeper and opening batsman. With Aaron Jones suspended, the remaining batting lineup is expected to shift up one position to accommodate his absence.
