New Delhi, June 4 (NationPress) The Indian women's hockey team is poised to launch its journey in the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 with a match against Thailand on September 5, 2025, at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Field Hockey Field, the venue for the 2022 Asian Games hockey, located in Hangzhou, China.

The Indian squad finds itself in Pool B, competing alongside the reigning Asia Cup champions, Japan, as well as Thailand and Singapore. Meanwhile, Pool A includes the host nation China, Korea, Malaysia, and Chinese Taipei.

This tournament is scheduled to occur in Hangzhou, China, from September 5 to 14, 2025. Following their bronze medal finish in the last edition, the Indian team is eager to secure the top podium position this time around.

A win would not only bring them continental pride but also ensure direct qualification for the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup, as the champions of the Asia Cup automatically earn a spot in this prestigious event.

Commenting on the tournament, India captain Salima Tete stated, “We are thrilled to commence our campaign in the Women’s Asia Cup. Being in Pool B with defending champions Japan will be a true test of our skills and resilience from the outset.

“Confronting them in the pool stage presents a valuable opportunity to gauge our abilities early in the tournament. Our emphasis will be on playing smart, disciplined hockey while taking it one match at a time. Our ultimate objective is to lift the trophy and secure a direct entry into the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup,” she added.

In agreement with Salima, vice-captain Navneet Kaur remarked, “This tournament will be challenging with Asia's elite teams competing, but we view it as an opportunity to showcase our best right from the first whistle. Our training has been intense and purposeful, and we aim to implement our strategies effectively on the field throughout the tournament.

Facing Japan in the group stage provides us with an early chance to experience high-pressure hockey, which will only strengthen our unit. We are committed to making our Asia Cup journey significant and to making our country proud,” she expressed.

Importantly, the Indian women's hockey team last claimed the Asia Cup title in 2017, triumphing over China in the final.

India's schedule for the Asia Cup 2025 includes:
