Indian Women's Junior Hockey Team Departs for Asia Cup in Oman

Bengaluru, Dec 3 (NationPress) The Indian junior women’s hockey squad embarked on their journey to the esteemed Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2024 from Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday morning. This Junior Asia Cup, which serves as a qualifying competition for the FIH Junior World Cup, is set to take place from December 7 to 15 in Muscat, Oman.

The Indian team will face formidable opponents including China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Bangladesh in Pool A, while Pool B consists of South Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka.

As the reigning champions, India’s campaign will be led by captain Jyoti Singh and vice captain Sakshi Rana. The roster also includes players with experience from the senior team such as Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Sunelita Toppo, Mumtaz Khan, Deepika, and Beauty Dungdung, with coaching provided by former India captain Tushar Khandker.

"We are filled with confidence and enthusiasm regarding our campaign. We have a talented, experienced team that has dedicated a lot of effort over the past few months, and we are eager to perform well in Muscat, Oman," stated Jyoti Singh prior to their departure.

"It’s encouraging to see the Indian Junior Men’s team advance to the knockout stage and strive for the title. We are following their matches closely and will support them in the upcoming games. We encourage Indian hockey enthusiasts to watch us and cheer us on. Given that Muscat boasts a large Indian community, we hope they will come out to support us," added vice-captain Sakshi Rana.

India’s first match is against Bangladesh on December 8.
