New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) Women wrestlers Meenakshi Goyat, Hanshika, and Mansi Lather, alongside male freestyle athletes Aman, Sandeep Singh Mann, Mukul Dahiya, and Greco-Roman style competitors Sachin Sehrawat and Sunil Kumar, excelled in their respective weight classes during the selection trials for the 2026 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship.

This prestigious continental event is set to take place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from April 6 to 12, with Indian wrestlers aiming for outstanding performances.

Meenakshi Goyat, who has transitioned from competing at 50kg to 53kg, surprised everyone by defeating Antim Panghal, a two-time World Championship bronze medallist, in the final of the women’s 53 kg trials.

Meenakshi's triumph is particularly noteworthy as she had previously faced defeats against Antim in earlier trials. This time, she demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill in a fiercely contested match. Antim, a three-time Asian Championship medallist, faced a strong challenge from the 25-year-old Meenakshi, a two-time national champion training under former national coach Kuldeep Malik in Sonepat.

In another exciting match at 50kg, Neelam, who had previously beaten Shivani, showcased her prowess by defeating Priyanshi in the final, winning by technical superiority.
