New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) In a remarkable display of talent, World U-23 champion Sujeet and Abhimanyou achieved contrasting victories in their respective men’s freestyle final matches, securing two gold medals for India on the second-to-last day of the 2026 Senior Asian Wrestling Championships held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, this Saturday.

Sujeet, remaining undefeated this year, showcased his prowess in the men’s 65kg freestyle final against Umidjon Jalolov of Uzbekistan, winning decisively with an 8-1 scoreline. This victory marks him as the first Indian to claim a gold medal in this weight category since Bajrang Punia in 2019.

Although Sujeet started cautiously, Jalolov maintained his defense in the first round. However, the 23-year-old quickly gained momentum in the second round, securing his fifth victory over the Uzbek.

Shortly thereafter, Abhimanyou contributed to the celebrations by overcoming a 0-2 deficit to defeat Tulga Tumur Ochir of Mongolia 5-3 in the men’s 70kg freestyle final.

A Head Constable in the CISF Central Wrestling Team, Abhimanyou, a 24-year-old from Hisar, Haryana, brought great honor to both the Force and the nation by winning gold in the 70 kg freestyle category at the Asian Wrestling Championship in Bishkek, which spanned from April 6 to 12, 2026, featuring elite wrestlers from across Asia.

Earlier, Ankush captured bronze in the men’s 57kg freestyle by defeating Fuga Sasaki from Japan 8-2, raising India’s total medal count to two golds, four silvers, and eight bronzes.

On the final competition day, India aims for two additional gold medals with Aman (men’s 61kg Freestyle) and Mukul Dahiya (men’s 86kg Freestyle) both qualifying for their respective finals.

Aman, who previously won bronze in Paris at 57kg and gold in the same category at the Asian Championships two years ago, is now competing in a higher weight class. In a thrilling semi-final, he triumphed over Ahmad Mohammadnezhadjavan of Iran with an 11-9 score.

He is set to face Kwang M Kim from North Korea, the semi-final victor against Gulomjon Abdullaev of Uzbekistan.

In the 86kg category, Mukul Dahiya initially struggled against Bolat Sakayev of Kazakhstan, conceding six early points. However, he regained his footing, executing two crucial takedowns to win 12-6 and secure a spot in the finals against Kamran Ghasempour of Iran.

Meanwhile, Dinesh will contend for the bronze in the men’s 125kg freestyle category after suffering a semi-final defeat by fall to Shamil Sharipov of Bahrain.
