Abhiram Singh Yadav, Chairman of Persatuan Cricket Indonesia, has been elected as an Associate Member representative on the ICC Chief Executives' Committee (CEC), the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Thursday, 24 September 2026. The election, held to fill a vacancy on one of cricket's most influential governing panels, marks a significant moment for cricket's expansion in Indonesia and across the broader Associate cricket community.

How the Vacancy Arose

The seat became available after France's Gurumurthy Palani was elevated to the ICC Board during the organisation's annual conference held in Edinburgh, Scotland, in July 2026. Yadav will serve out the remaining 10 months of the original two-year term, sitting alongside current Associate representatives Gurdeep Klair and Anuraag Bhatnagar.

'Mr Yadav will serve on the CEC until the next elections, which will be held at the ICC Annual Conference in June 2027,' the ICC said in its official statement.

A Competitive Election

Yadav reportedly emerged victorious from a competitive field that included candidates from three European Associate nations — Jersey, the Netherlands, and Germany. His win underscores the growing stature of cricket in Southeast Asia and reflects a broader push within the ICC to ensure diverse regional representation on its key committees.

Indonesia is also reportedly being considered as a potential host for the ICC's quarterly meetings in Bali in November 2026, further cementing its rising profile within global cricket administration.

Yadav's Vision for Associate Cricket

In earlier remarks, Yadav had outlined a collaborative and tailored approach to developing cricket across emerging nations. 'One member may be advanced in an area where another is only beginning, and somewhere else the position may be reversed. There is enormous knowledge within Associate cricket,' he said.

'We should be sharing it and helping each other to make progress in cricket. The approach has to be global in outlook, but relevant in application,' he added, noting that the priorities — whether infrastructure, domestic competition, coaching, women's and youth pathways, governance, or commercial capability — must come from the members themselves.

Indonesia's Cricket Journey Under Yadav

The election is backed by a demonstrable track record. Under Yadav's chairmanship, Indonesia qualified for the inaugural 2023 ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup and made its debut at the 2026 Women's Asia Cup in Dubai. The country is also developing permanent turf wickets through the Bali International Oval project, a development that has earned public endorsement from ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta.

Notably, Indonesia's emergence as a cricketing nation in Southeast Asia aligns with the ICC's global expansion roadmap — a region that has historically been dominated by football and badminton but is increasingly being targeted for cricket's growth.

With Yadav now part of the CEC, attention will turn to whether Indonesia can translate administrative representation into grassroots and structural gains on the ground. The next formal test of his tenure will come at the ICC Annual Conference in June 2027, when fresh elections for Associate seats on the CEC are scheduled to take place.
