New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed his happiness regarding the substantial earnings of uncapped players during the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction. He highlighted that the tournament continues to fulfill its primary mission of offering a platform for young and emerging talent nationwide.
The uncapped players became the focal point of the auction, with franchises investing considerable amounts to acquire promising domestic athletes. Notably, the Delhi Capitals generated buzz by signing Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Dar for a staggering Rs. 84 crore. Simultaneously, five-time champions Chennai Super Kings made significant investments in youth, securing Rajasthan cricketer Kartik Sharma and Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Prashant Veer for Rs. 14.20 crore each.
In response to these developments, Saikia expressed his satisfaction with franchises selecting players based on their domestic performances, thereby providing opportunities for talent across the nation.
"I am extremely pleased because franchises are picking uncapped players from various states based on their domestic performances. For instance, there’s Auqib Dar from J&K and Prashant Veer from UP. This is exactly what the IPL aims to achieve: promoting our young talents.
"Even if they're not getting opportunities in the Indian team, they can still achieve great success in their careers, and this serves as a perfect example. The platform is set for them, and I believe that, in the future, more youngsters from various states will emerge and capture the attention of franchises and scouts," he added.
Saikia’s remarks underscore the IPL's growing significance as a launchpad for domestic cricketers, offering them both financial security and exposure as they aspire to represent their country on the international stage.
