New Delhi, Nov 13 (NationPress) Discussions regarding retention for the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have commenced as the November 15 deadline approaches, according to franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka. In the 2025 season, LSG, led by Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, finished in seventh place with six victories out of 14 matches.
The Lucknow-based team had impressive runs in their initial two IPL seasons in 2022 and 2023, making it to the knockouts. “IPL retention discussions for @LucknowIPL are in progress. Thrilled to have @TomMoodyCricket on our side, bringing valuable experience and strategic insight. Engaging conversations with @RishabhPant17, Justin Langer, and Bharat Arun as we prepare for the upcoming season,” Goenka shared on his ‘X’ account on Thursday.
Also featured in the post are Goenka’s son, co-owner Shashwat Goenka, and team analyst Shrinivas Chandrashekaran. Following a disappointing performance in IPL 2025, LSG underwent significant changes in their coaching lineup; while Langer retained his position, Bharat Arun was appointed as the bowling coach, and Carl Crowe joined as the spin bowling coach.
Recently, Tom Moody took over as the side’s global director of cricket, succeeding Zaheer Khan. After the retention deadline, a mini auction for IPL 2026 is set to take place on either December 15 or 16 in Abu Dhabi.
Regarding retentions, LSG faces challenging decisions: promising fast bowler Mayank Yadav, retained for Rs 11 crore, is currently in rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru after undergoing back surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand, in July this year.
It is understood that Yadav’s ongoing recovery may render him unavailable for the first half of IPL 2026. David Miller, Arshin Kulkarni, and Shamar Joseph also failed to meet expectations while in LSG colors during the 2025 season. There are rumors about all-rounder Shardul Thakur potentially being traded to another franchise by LSG before the retention deadline, but nothing has been confirmed.
