ISL: Mohun Bagan Faces East Bengal in Guwahati's Thrilling Kolkata Derby

Kolkata, Jan 8 (NationPress) Mohun Bagan Super Giant has announced that the Kolkata derby against East Bengal FC, set for January 11, will now occur in Guwahati instead of Kolkata, and it will take place at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium.

The clash between these two Kolkata powerhouses was initially planned for the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. However, due to the upcoming Gangasagar Mela, the police informed Mohun Bagan's organizers that they would not be able to provide sufficient security for the match.

“The Saturday blockbuster ‘Boro Match’ will now be held in Guwahati. Looking forward to seeing you, Mariners,” the club declared in a statement.

While other venues like Bhubaneswar and Jamshedpur were alternatives, Guwahati was ultimately chosen. Punjab FC and FC Goa are set to face NorthEast United on January 10 and January 14, respectively.

One of the factors for selecting Guwahati was to relieve the official broadcaster from incurring additional costs.

Mohun Bagan SG enters the Kolkata derby in exceptional form, having secured victory in eight of their last ten matches. The Mariners have never been defeated by their city rivals in the ISL and aim to maintain this streak.

In contrast, East Bengal is experiencing a resurgence since the appointment of head coach Oscar Bruzon, with only two losses in the league.

Coach Jose Molina’s squad triumphed in the previous Kolkata derby this season and is eager to build on their strong performance against their arch-rivals.
