Jhye Richardson to Undergo Surgery for Shoulder Injury, Missing Entire 2024-25 Season

Sydney, Jan 12 (NationPress) Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson is expected to take a lengthy break from cricket as he gears up for surgery later this week to address his dislocated shoulder sustained in November.
The unfortunate injury took place during a Sheffield Shield match in a bizarre incident when Richardson dislocated his shoulder while celebrating a wicket with a high-five to a teammate.
Consequently, Richardson will be sidelined for the remainder of the Big Bash season, but after discussions with medical professionals and Cricket Australia, he is targeting a comeback next summer, with the Ashes on the horizon.
"Jhye Richardson will miss the entire 24-25 season after deciding to undergo surgery this week to stabilize his right shoulder. This choice was made after thorough consultations with Cricket Australia and medical experts," the Perth Scorchers announced on X.
Recently, Richardson recommitted to the Perth Scorchers, signing a two-year contract extension valid until the conclusion of BBL 16.
The 28-year-old has faced numerous injury challenges throughout his international career, notably recurring hamstring issues. Since debuting in 2017, Richardson has played only 36 matches across all formats for Australia, securing 57 wickets.
"After careful evaluation and numerous discussions with my medical team, I've opted for shoulder surgery to enhance stability and minimize future injury risks.
"Over the past few years, my shoulder has limited my performance on the field, and I recognize the importance of being able to support my teammates effectively."
"Although this decision is difficult, particularly since it means I won't be available to finish the season with the Scorchers, it's the best path forward for my return to cricket in a strong and healthy manner," Richardson expressed in a press release.
"Timing for the surgery is critical to ensure I have the best preparation leading into next summer's Shield cricket. I am fully committed to the rehabilitation process, aiming to return as the best version of myself."
"I appreciate all the support, and I am eager to come back stronger for the summer of 2025/2026!" he concluded.
