Jhye Richardson to Undergo Shoulder Surgery, Missing Entire 2024-25 Season

Sydney, Jan 12 (NationPress) Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson is facing a lengthy absence from cricket as he readies himself for surgery this week to address his shoulder injury, which was dislocated in November.

This unfortunate injury occurred during a Sheffield Shield match when Richardson dislocated his shoulder in a bizarre incident while celebrating a wicket with a teammate.

Consequently, Richardson will be sidelined for the remainder of the Big Bash season. After consulting with medical professionals and Cricket Australia, he is aiming for a comeback next summer, with the Ashes on the horizon.

"Jhye Richardson will miss the entire 24-25 season after deciding to undergo surgery this week to stabilize his right shoulder. This decision came after thorough discussions with Cricket Australia and medical experts," the Perth Scorchers announced on X.

Recently, Richardson reaffirmed his commitment to the Perth Scorchers by signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the team until the conclusion of BBL 16.

At 28 years old, Richardson's international journey has been marred by injuries, including ongoing hamstring issues. Since his debut in 2017, he has participated in just 36 matches across all formats for Australia, securing 57 wickets.

"After thoughtful consideration and numerous discussions with my medical team, I have chosen to proceed with shoulder surgery to enhance stability and mitigate the risk of future injuries.

"In recent years, my shoulder has limited my performance on the field, and I recognize the importance of being able to support my teammates effectively."

"Although it's a difficult decision, especially since it means I will not finish the season with the Scorchers, I believe this is the best course of action to ensure a robust return to cricket," Richardson stated in a press release.

"The timing of the surgery is vital to guarantee I have the most effective preparation, including Shield cricket leading into next summer. I am fully committed to the rehabilitation process, determined to return as the best version of myself."

"I appreciate all the support, and I look forward to coming back even stronger for the summer of 2025/2026!" he concluded.
