Kanpur Superstars franchise owner Ayush Lalwani has expressed strong confidence ahead of the team's opening fixture in the UP T20 League, asserting that state-level cricket competitions are creating a transformative pipeline for young cricketers aspiring to reach the IPL and the Indian national team. The Superstars open their campaign on 15 August against the Noida Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Squad Built for Balance

Following a productive player auction, Lalwani said the management executed its core strategy of assembling a well-rounded unit. 'We are very happy with the way the auction went,' he said. 'Our aim was to build a balanced squad by covering all the key areas, and I believe we have achieved that. We have a good mix of quality batters, bowlers, and all-rounders, and overall we are pleased with the team we have assembled.'

The batting lineup is anchored by explosive batter Sameer Rizvi, while the bowling attack will be led by left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan. The franchise also secured experienced campaigners Karn Sharma and Mohammed Amaan — the latter a former India Under-19 captain — to provide leadership and mentorship to younger squad members.

'Amaan has also captained the India Under-19 team, so both of them bring valuable experience and leadership,' Lalwani noted. 'We believe they will play an important role in guiding the younger players and strengthening the team.'

UPCA Speed Hunt and Grassroots Development

Lalwani praised the UPCA Speed Hunt, a talent-scouting initiative designed to identify raw fast-bowling prospects across Uttar Pradesh. He described it as a critical bridge between grassroots cricket and professional competition.

'The UPCA Speed Hunt is a fantastic initiative. It gives raw and talented players an opportunity to showcase their skills and get noticed,' he said. 'The UP T20 League provides them with the perfect platform to perform, and from here they can dream of progressing to the IPL and even representing India. Initiatives like these are very important for the future of cricket in the state.'

Why State Leagues Matter

Lalwani elaborated on the broader ecosystem impact of state T20 leagues, arguing that they fill a crucial competitive gap given the limited slots available in the IPL and the national squad. 'The growth of state leagues has created healthy competition among players. While opportunities in the IPL and the Indian team are limited, these tournaments motivate youngsters to improve their game and perform consistently,' he said. 'They know that one good season can open bigger doors for them, and that is what makes these leagues so valuable.'

Tournament Schedule and Home Fixtures

The 24-day tournament runs through to 6 September, when the grand finale is scheduled. After the opening phase in Lucknow, the action shifts to the Superstars' home venue — Green Park Stadium in Kanpur — from 28 August, which will also host the playoffs and the final.

Lalwani set clear expectations for his players heading into the season: 'The most important qualities I expect from my players are focus, discipline, and commitment. If everyone gives their hundred percent and plays for the team, the results will take care of themselves.'
