Kanpur Superstars batter Sameer Rizvi has backed the UPT20 League as the ideal platform for emerging cricketers in Uttar Pradesh, ahead of the tournament's fourth season, which gets underway on 14 August 2026 in Lucknow. The 24-day competition opens with Kashi Rudras facing defending champions Meerut Mavericks in the tournament opener.

Rizvi on the League's Growing Stature

Rizvi, who will represent the Kanpur Superstars in the upcoming season, described the UPT20 League as one of the most significant domestic T20 platforms in the country. 'The UPT20 League has grown into one of the biggest domestic T20 tournaments in the country. Uttar Pradesh has no shortage of talent, and this league provides young cricketers with the perfect platform to showcase their skills and take the next step in their careers,' he said.

He added that the tournament's scale grows with every edition, creating fresh avenues for players who might otherwise struggle to find high-profile exposure. 'Every season, the tournament gets bigger, creating even more opportunities for emerging players,' Rizvi noted.

From UPT20 to the IPL — A Proven Pathway

Rizvi highlighted the league's track record of propelling players toward Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts, underscoring its value beyond just state-level competition. 'UPT20 is a massive opportunity for young cricketers. Several players have used this platform to earn IPL contracts, which makes it a stage where dreams can truly become reality,' he said.

He also acknowledged the intense competition at the trial stage, noting that hundreds of players compete for limited spots. Citing the league's unofficial motto, Rizvi said: 'As we often say, Khiladi yahan banta hai — this is where players are made.' He credited the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) for sustaining the platform.

Schedule and Venues

The Kanpur Superstars open their UPT20 League 2026 campaign against the Noida Kings on 15 August at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The first phase of the tournament, including the opening ceremony, will be hosted in Lucknow.

The competition then moves to Kanpur, with Kashi Rudras and Noida Kings clashing on 28 August. The entire knockout phase — including Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator on 3 September, Qualifier 2 on 4 September, and the Grand Final on 6 September — will be held at the iconic Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, which will also host the closing ceremony.
