Nagpur, Feb 26 (NationPress) Karun Nair, the Indian and Vidarbha cricketer, has achieved an incredible milestone by scoring 8,000 runs in First-Class cricket. He reached this significant landmark during the Ranji Trophy final against Kerala at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha on Wednesday.
In his 114th First-Class match, Nair came to bat at number five in the 13th over after Kerala had limited the hosts to 24 for three after opting to bowl first. He accomplished this feat by scoring 10 runs.
The top-order batsman had previously hit a century in Vidarbha’s last league match against Hyderabad and followed that with his 22nd First Class century in the quarterfinal win over Tamil Nadu. He ranks third among Vidarbha’s leading run-scorers with a tally of 673* runs, featuring three centuries and one half-century.
This ongoing Ranji final marks Nair’s fourth appearance, having played in two finals for Karnataka from 2013-15 and one with Vidarbha last year, where they ended up as runners-up to Mumbai.
At the time of this report, Nair was batting at 35 off 76 balls alongside Danish Malewar (66 off 118), with Vidarbha at 120/3.
Nair played in his debut First-Class season (2013-14), witnessing Karnataka’s victory over Maharashtra in the final to clinch the title. The subsequent year, he made headlines with a monumental 328 in the final against Tamil Nadu, earning the Player of the Match award as Karnataka defended their title successfully.
Earlier this January, the 33-year-old cracked a world record for the most consecutive runs scored in List A cricket without dismissal, totalizing over 500 runs before finally being dismissed in a match against Uttar Pradesh during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Nair broke the previous world record of 527 consecutive runs without dismissal held by New Zealand’s James Franklin since 2010. He concluded his innings with a total of 542 runs, making him the first Indian batter to achieve such a milestone.
Last year, he became only the second Indian cricketer, following former opener Virender Sehwag, to score a triple hundred. He also set the record for the fastest maiden triple century in the history of Test cricket.
Nair was acquired by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 50 lakh during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
