Kei Nishikori Soars 32 Spots to Reenter ATP Top-100

Melbourne, Jan 6 (NationPress) Japan's former top-10 men's singles player Kei Nishikori has made an impressive leap of 32 spots in the ATP World Rankings, securing a position within the Top 100 at No. 74 as per the latest list published on Monday. This marks the highest ascent in rankings over the past week.

Other notable players in the Top 100 include Australia's Alex de Minaur, Jiri Lehecka, and Alexander Muller, all of whom have also improved their rankings.

Nishikori, previously ranked No. 576 and returning to the court with protection at the French Open 2024, reached his first ATP Tour final in six years last week at the 2025 Hong Kong Open after Shang Juncheng retired.

The Japanese star has re-entered the Top 100 for the first time since June 2022, following his impressive run that saw him defeat Denis Shapovalov, Karen Khachanov, Cameron Norrie, and Shang Juncheng before succumbing to Alexandre Muller in the final.

Alex de Minaur moved up one position to No. 8 after securing two victories for Australia at the United Cup, which means he will be seeded eighth at the upcoming Australian Open.

Lehecka continued his successful streak in Australia by clinching his second ATP Tour title in Brisbane, having only dropped one set throughout the tournament, according to the official ATP Tour website.

The 27-year-old Muller ascended to a career-high No. 56 in the ATP Rankings after winning his first tour-level title in Hong Kong, becoming only the third player in history to achieve this feat after losing the first set in every match he played.

No. 113 Joao Fonseca also enjoyed a 32-place rise. The 18-year-old Brazilian concluded 2024 by winning the Next Gen ATP Finals and kicked off 2025 with a victory at an ATP Challenger Tour event in Canberra, where he did not lose a set.

Other significant movers in the Top 100 include No. 63 Yoshihito Nishioka who gained six spots, No. 70 Benjamin Bonzi also climbing six rungs, No. 75 Dusan Lajovic improving by five spots, and Jacob Fearnley who jumped 13 places to achieve a career-high at No. 86.
