New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) The renowned English County Cricket Club, Kent, has officially inked a deal with South Africa’s versatile spin-bowling all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy for the majority of the upcoming 2026 county season, as announced by the club on Monday.
Muthusamy is set to participate in the entire 20-over campaign and will also be available for eight County Championship matches. He is scheduled to join the club on May 22, coinciding with the start of the T20 Blast, and will remain until the season concludes.
"I’m excited to take on the challenge of competing in County Championship and Vitality Blast cricket for the first time with a club that boasts a rich history. I have heard many positive things about Kent from my teammates who have previously played here, and I am eager to contribute with both bat and ball while wearing the Kent colors," Muthusamy stated on Monday.
At 31 years old, Muthusamy was part of the South African squad that triumphed in the 2025 World Test Championship at Lord’s. He has represented South Africa in eight Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is. He has also achieved 10 first-class centuries across 115 matches, alongside claiming 81 wickets in T20s at an impressive average of 6.62.
His rise to prominence occurred last November when he scored his first Test century for South Africa against India, notching up 109 runs at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, helping the Proteas secure a historic 2-0 series victory.
“We are incredibly pleased to have secured the services of an international talent capable of excelling across multiple formats for most of this upcoming summer. Sen is a highly adaptable player who can bat in various positions within the order during Championship matches. He is also anticipated to be an asset on late-season pitches that favor spin,” remarked Simon Cook, Kent’s Director of Cricket.
“In the Vitality Blast, he will offer left-handed hitting options towards the end of innings and provide an economical spin option during the middle overs as we aim to remain competitive across multiple formats this season. Overseas players often contribute beyond their on-field performance,” he added.
“Sen’s experience will be crucial in mentoring our younger players, particularly his time spent with Jaydn Denly, who is also a left-handed batter and left-arm spinner. This relationship will be vital for his development,” Cook concluded.
