Kishan's Leadership Philosophy: Stay Present for IPL 2026
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 25 (NationPress) Stand-in captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Ishan Kishan, has shared insights into his leadership philosophy as the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) approaches, set to kick off on March 28.
SRH's opening match will be against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28. Kishan, who made a surprising entry back into the Indian T20I team ahead of the T20 World Cup, will take on the captaincy for the first time in the absence of Pat Cummins, who will miss the initial matches of the tournament.
In a video shared by the franchise, Kishan expressed his eagerness for the captaincy role and emphasized his desire to maintain a straightforward and enjoyable approach to the game.
"Being a leader of the team has always been my aspiration, and I am truly thrilled to have this opportunity to guide the team. Honestly, I plan to keep it uncomplicated, as all players in the IPL are already exceptionally talented," he stated in the video.
"It's crucial to ensure players stay focused and maintain a positive mindset, even after a few innings. I believe this season will be great, and we will achieve success together," the captain added.
Kishan also shared his captaincy mantra, indicating that under his leadership, the focus will be on staying present and taking it one match at a time. "For cricketers, maintaining a healthy mindset throughout the season is vital. Remaining calm and composed while being aware of the team's needs will lead to success," he explained.
"This season, we'll prioritize being in the moment, keeping things simple, and working hard in preparation. During matches, our goal is to enjoy the experience and tackle one game at a time," Kishan noted.
The wicketkeeper-batter also called for fan support as the team aims to end their decade-long wait for an IPL trophy. "Thank you for being part of this journey on behalf of my team. This season is special, and we need your support and love to play our best cricket," he said.
"We are committed to giving our all for you, especially since we understand the level of support we receive when representing SRH. We hope to deliver an outstanding performance. Thank you for your continued support," Kishan concluded.
Kishan displayed remarkable form in the recently held T20 World Cup 2026, accumulating 532 runs across 13 matches at an average of 40.92 with a striking rate of 207.
