New Delhi, July 29 (NationPress) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have concluded their collaboration with head coach Chandrakant Pandit after a three-season journey where he led KKR to an Indian Premier League (IPL) championship.
Pandit took charge in August 2022, succeeding Brendon McCullum, who transitioned to the role of England Test head coach. Under his leadership, KKR clinched the 2024 IPL title with Shreyas Iyer as captain, marking the franchise's first championship in a decade. However, ahead of the 2025 IPL, KKR did not retain Iyer, the captain who secured their title. A year later, they decided to part ways with Pandit.
"Mr. Chandrakant Pandit has opted to pursue new opportunities and will not continue as Head Coach of Kolkata Knight Riders," the franchise stated on Tuesday.
"We appreciate his invaluable contributions, including leading KKR to the Tata IPL Championship in 2024 and fostering a resilient and strong squad. His discipline and leadership have made a significant impact on the team. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
Despite entering the 2025 season as defending champions, KKR struggled significantly, finishing eighth, their lowest position in the tournament’s history.
During Pandit’s tenure, KKR achieved 22 victories out of 42 matches across three seasons, with 18 losses and two no-results. This marked Pandit’s debut IPL coaching role and made him the franchise’s first Indian head coach. He assembled a support team including bowling coach Bharat Arun and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
In 2025, KKR made headlines by acquiring Venkatesh Iyer for an astonishing Rs 23.75 crore. However, this high-profile signing did not deliver the expected results, as the all-rounder faced challenges with both bat and ball throughout the season. Pandit was instrumental in bringing Iyer to the team, having previously coached him at Madhya Pradesh. Iyer was also appointed vice-captain, with Ajinkya Rahane taking over as captain.
