KKR Coach Nayar Sets Ambitious Goal for IPL 2026: Fourth Title
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 18 (NationPress) Abhishek Nayar, the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), conveyed a decisive message to his team before the start of their practice at the Eden Gardens. He emphasized that the talent is in place, and it’s now crucial to clinch their fourth title.
As a team with three IPL championships, KKR will kick off their 2026 campaign against five-time winners Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on March 29. “Before the entire squad assembles, I want to share a single thought with you all. We have trained rigorously, refining our skills over recent months. Countless discussions have taken place,” said Nayar.
“For me, the key factor year after year is how we adjust our mindset. The skills are established, and that won’t shift in the next 10 days. However, it’s our mentality that must evolve. Every moment spent on this field, with each other, and with our coaches is focused on one shared ambition.
“We must achieve one goal: we need to win and secure that fourth star. We are committed to preparing our minds thoroughly before our bodies arrive for the first match on the 29th. Let’s utilize this time to communicate, bond stronger as a team, and prepare for whatever comes our way. Enjoy yourselves,” Nayar stated in a video released by KKR Knight Club.
Nayar also took the time to introduce several new members of the KKR team, including assistant coach Shane Watson and fielding coach Dishant Yagnik. “I want to formally welcome some new faces. Everyone knows Shane Watson as a player, but I have had the privilege of playing under him too.
“I’m truly delighted, Watto, to have you on board. Your presence has already added substantial value in the short time we've interacted. Make sure to leverage his experience; there’s much to learn from him. Although we’ve had excellent coaches, I’m confident that Shane Watson will be a significant asset. So, welcome to the KKR family, Watto.”
“I might overlook some names, but another addition is Mr. Dishant Yagnik, a bundle of energy. Many of you are familiar with him from domestic cricket, and I’m sure his enthusiasm and passion will resonate with us. So, welcome, Yagi. We also have Manvinder Bisla and Biju George, our scouting leads, who are here to support our developmental phase.”
Regarding Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani, Nayar remarked, “Blessing, you’re indeed a blessing in disguise for us. Although we’ve kept you somewhat confined thus far, it’s wonderful to have you, our tallest player ever in KKR’s history. Welcome, and I hope you enjoy your time with us and bond with the team.”
New and returning Indian recruits were also acknowledged by Nayar. “We have some fresh Indian talent joining us; welcome Tejasvi Dhaiya, a wicketkeeper from Delhi—great to have you onboard. Prashant Solanki transitions from yellow to gold—welcome! Sarthak Ranjan, who resembles Nitish Rana, is also a great addition. Daksh Kamra, our mystery spinner, and I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone else—oh yes, Kartik Tyagi, welcome to the franchise.”
“Now that we've welcomed our new members, I must say one thing: Rahul is back where he belongs. Rahul Tripathi, welcome back! Our camp has pretty much retained the same core group,” he concluded.
