New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) Former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has declared his availability for Delhi's upcoming Ranji Trophy match and has participated in a training session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in preparation for the game against Railways, commencing Thursday.
Kohli's last appearance in a Ranji Trophy match was in 2012 against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. During Tuesday's practice, he engaged in various group running and fielding exercises, as well as brief football activities with his teammates.
Previously, IANS reported that Kohli has assured his participation in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Railways, scheduled from January 30 to February 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Kohli expressed his eagerness to play this match, which he relayed to the DDCA on Monday evening, according to sources speaking to IANS.
There has been significant pressure on members of the Indian red-ball team to engage in domestic matches following their disappointing batting performance in Australia, where the team struggled to surpass 150 runs in their first innings across most Test matches.
During the five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli managed to score only 190 runs and was dismissed eight times while attempting deliveries outside the off-stump.
Delhi presently stands fourth in the Elite Group D table with 14 points from five matches and needs victories in their remaining two games to secure a chance for knockout stage qualification.
The final round of Ranji Trophy group matches will conclude four days prior to India's first ODI against England in Nagpur on February 6.
Kohli is also included in the ODI squad for the three-match bilateral series leading up to the Champions Trophy, commencing February 19. Alongside Kohli, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is also participating in the Ranji Trophy fixtures.
