La Liga: Diego Simeone Awarded Coach of the Month Following Atletico’s Remarkable Seven-Game Triumph

Madrid, Dec 23 (NationPress) Diego Simeone has been honored as the Best La Liga Coach for December, recognizing Atletico de Madrid’s incredible achievements throughout the month, which have elevated the team to the top of the league standings. Following a 1-0 defeat to Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin on October 27, Atletico Madrid has experienced a flawless run, winning all of their matches (7 out of 7) against Las Palmas (2-0), Mallorca (0-1), Deportivo Alaves (2-1), Real Valladolid (0-5), Sevilla (4-3), Getafe (1-0), and FC Barcelona (1-2).
This marks Diego Pablo Simeone’s first accolade of the season, culminating 2024 on a high note, as he outperformed both Diego Martínez (UD Las Palmas) and Ernesto Valverde (Athletic Club) in the final voting for the Best Coach of the Month in La Liga for December.
Atletico Madrid’s latest victory over FC Barcelona, just before the league’s two-week winter break, has positioned them at the top of the La Liga table, with yet another comeback achieved in the closing moments thanks to Alexander Sorloth’s goal.
In the aftermath of the match against Barcelona, Simeone shared insights on the transformations observed within the team this season.
“We discovered ourselves as we progressed. As a coach, our greatest strength lies in supporting what the players are executing well, providing them with structure, allowing the team to evolve as they engage in the game. We started in Vic, proceeded to Paris when challenges were intense, and the same dynamic prevailed today, enabling us to compete effectively. Fundamentally, the legacy left by the club includes players like Gabi, Godin, and Juanfran, which now extends to Koke and De Paul from Argentina, along with our skilled forwards,” remarked Simeone during a press conference.
The race for the La Liga title is intensifying, with a mere one point separating Real Madrid and Atletico. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona’s recent decline has caused them to fall three points behind the league leaders, having played one additional game compared to the two teams from Madrid.
