Dharamshala, May 4 (NationPress) - The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have successfully won the toss and decided to bowl first against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) during match 54 of IPL 2025 at the HPCA Stadium this Sunday. This match marks PBKS’ first appearance at their alternate home ground this season after playing four matches in New Chandigarh.
Currently, PBKS sits in fourth place on the points table with six victories from 10 matches, making them strong contenders for a playoff spot. Conversely, LSG returns after a week off, holding the sixth position with five wins out of 11 games. A victory today is crucial for them to keep their playoff aspirations alive.
After the toss, LSG captain Rishabh Pant mentioned that the ball is likely to stop a bit early, influencing his choice to bowl first. The team has included leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi in their impact substitutes list, indicating their belief that the pitch will favor seam bowlers. Given the recent inclement weather in the area, LSG has also decided to include left-arm pacer Akash Singh.
“We believe it is a pitch that favors bowling first. We are uncertain about how it will play out. It appears to be a bit loose on top but still a good wicket. Bowling first will give us an edge, and we are eager to see how the match unfolds. We aim to keep things straightforward. It's great to see the youngsters step up,” he stated.
On the other hand, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed one change in their lineup, with seam-bowling all-rounder Marcus Stoinis joining the playing eleven. “We would have chosen to bowl first as well. The wicket was covered for a while, and with the rain we've had, it retains moisture. The grass is thicker,” he noted.
“I can't predict how the pitch will perform. We are ready for the challenge and must focus on the positives. Dwelling on past performances can be detrimental.”
“Maintaining high spirits and motivation among each other is essential. We need to enjoy our successes together, which nurtures our team culture and camaraderie. Keeping things simple is our mantra, even though it can be challenging,” he emphasized.
