Mumbai, Feb 25 (NationPress) Amateur Mannat Brar recorded an impressive 2-under 68 to seize a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the fourth leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour held at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club.

Mannat, who is set to represent India at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championships in Vietnam next week, was on track for a remarkable score as she reached four-under through 12 holes. However, a series of three bogeys from the 14th to the 17th holes caused her to lose ground, though she managed to finish with a birdie on the 18th, concluding the round with a 68.

Three players, Kriti Chowhan, Seher Atwal, and Shweta Mansingh, shared the second position, each completing their rounds at even par with a score of 70.

A highlight of Shweta’s performance was a stunning hat-trick of birdies from the 15th to the 17th holes, finishing with four birdies and four bogeys. Seher, a previous champion on the tour, recorded two birdies alongside two bogeys, while Kriti also had a mix of two birdies and bogeys. The talented 17-year-old Mannat, who made history last year as the first Indian to reach the semi-finals of the R&A Girls Amateur, is also the reigning champion of the All India Amateur and Junior Girls Championship.

She started strong with birdies on the first, fourth, and sixth holes, turning in at 3-under, and added a fourth birdie on the 12th. Unfortunately, she bogeyed the 14th, 15th, and 17th holes but managed to close with another birdie on the 18th.

The leaderboard was packed, with five players tied at 2-over 72, including the 2024 Hero Order of Merit winner, Hitaashee Bakshi, last week’s runner-up Vani Kapoor, seasoned players Neha Tripathi, Jasmine Shekar, and amateur Anuradha Chaudhuri.

Six more players, led by Sneha Singh, the recent WPGT champion, along with amateurs Saanvi Somu, Keerthana Rajeev, Aradhana Manikandan, Ananya Datar, and Lavanya Jadon, were tied for tenth place after carding 3-over 73.

Other notable players had a tougher day, with Ridhima Dilawari finishing T-16 with a score of 74, while Gaurika Bishnoi and Khushi Khanijau both ended T-21 at 75, Amandeep Drall at T-23 with 76, and Rhea Purvi at T-25 with 77.
