Auckland, March 22 (NationPress) New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced that fast bowler Matt Henry will miss the remainder of the current T20I series against Pakistan as he continues his recovery from injuries.
Henry sustained an injury to his right shoulder during the recent ICC Champions Trophy semi-final victory against South Africa and has also been dealing with an ongoing issue with his left knee.
In place of Henry, Zak Foulkes, a pace bowler from Canterbury, has been retained for the last two matches of the series. Foulkes had already been called up for the first three games, as confirmed by the NZC.
Will O’Rourke, who was initially scheduled for the first three matches, will now join the T20I squad for the final two games, replacing Kyle Jamieson.
New Zealand is currently leading the series 2-1, with the remaining matches set to take place at Bay Oval in Tauranga on Sunday and at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday.
On Friday, Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback in the third T20I, keeping their hopes alive. They established a new world record for the fastest chase of a 200-plus target in T20I history, achieving New Zealand's target of 205 in just 16 overs with nine wickets remaining. The former record was held by South Africa, who chased down 206 in 17.4 overs.
Hasan Nawaz was the standout player for Pakistan, scoring the fastest-ever T20I century by a Pakistani. Nawaz's incredible first-ever century came off just 44 balls, surpassing Babar Azam’s previous record of a 49-ball century. Nawaz finished unbeaten on 105 from 45 balls, while captain Salman Agha added a commendable 51 from 31 balls. Earlier, Mark Chapman was New Zealand’s top scorer with 94 runs, which ultimately was not enough to defend their total.
