Wellington, Sep 2 (NationPress) Craig McMillan has been named the full-time assistant coach for New Zealand's women cricket team, a little over a year after he initially joined the squad on a part-time basis.

The ex-player and batting coach will focus on the White Ferns' batting and fielding strategies, working alongside Ben Sawyer and Dean Brownlie, with his official start date being this week.

This new position will allow McMillan to concentrate exclusively on the New Zealand women's team and the Players of Interest program for female athletes, as he steps away from his successful commentary career and other coaching roles.

Having been part of the team during their victorious campaign at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE, McMillan expressed his enthusiasm for taking on the full-time role.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the WHITE FERNS. The women’s game is evolving rapidly, and I’m eager to continue collaborating with our skilled players to help them achieve their ambitions,” McMillan stated.

“The past year has flown by, and I’ve enjoyed every moment being part of a team that strives for improvement, pushes each other, and accomplishes remarkable feats on a global stage.”

He mentioned that preparations for New Zealand's ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup are in full swing. The White Ferns have been actively training for the upcoming World Cup, including a camp in Chennai last month to adapt to spin-friendly conditions.

“It’s been a hectic lead-up to the 50-over World Cup. We’ve had several camps, including one in Chennai that exposed the players to the conditions they’ll face in October-November. The team is energized and ready to return to India for another World Cup,” he added.

The NZC announced that the Women’s World Cup squad will be revealed on September 10.
