Bhubaneswar, Jan 20 (NationPress) In a crucial encounter, the Hyderabad Toofans secured a tense 3-2 triumph over HIL GC during their final league match of the Men’s Hockey India League (HIL) at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. Scoring for Hyderabad were Zachary Wallace, Amandeep Lakra, and Shilanand Lakra, while Kane Russell netted a brace for HIL GC.

Initially, HIL GC dominated possession, yet the Toofans took the lead against the flow, capitalizing on a penalty corner. Zachary Wallace (6’) managed to score following a deflection, eluding James Mazarelo in goal. HIL GC quickly equalized within two minutes via a penalty corner dragflick from Kane Russell (8’).

Demonstrating tenacity in this pivotal match, the Toofans swiftly responded with their second penalty corner, as Amandeep Lakra (8’) delivered a powerful dragflick past the goalkeeper, putting his team ahead 2-1 by the end of a thrilling first quarter.

Continuing their offensive in the second quarter, the Toofans pressured James Mazarelo multiple times, eventually extending their lead when Shilanand Lakra (27’) scored from close range.

Despite trailing by two goals, HIL GC created numerous opportunities, proving to be a constant threat throughout the first half.

HIL GC made an excellent start to the second half, with Kane Russell (31’) scoring his second goal from a penalty corner dragflick, narrowing the gap. With just one goal separating the teams, both sides showed great attacking intent, yet neither could capitalize on their chances.

As HIL GC pressed for an equalizer, they recorded 18 circle entries in the final quarter, but the steadfast Toofans defense held firm, ensuring they clinched the victory and all three points.
