Lalit Modi's Take on Alleged Black Magic in IPL 2026 Match
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) Former chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lalit Modi, has labeled a circulating letter as inauthentic, which claimed that ‘black magic’ took place during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Modi noted that similar allegations have appeared previously. The uproar was ignited by a video from the match held at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, showing a fan executing a ‘lemon trick’ just before CSK batter Shivam Dube was set to face SRH bowler Sakib Hussain.
This footage was soon followed by an unverified complaint letter from CSK that gained traction online. “This seems fake this time. However, one team owner was known to engage in such practices,” Modi stated on his ‘X’ account on Monday.
“I recall posting about a team owner who did this to the rival team by performing similar actions in their dressing room. I even warned the opposing team owners back in the 2011 season when I received credible proof of it. I will disclose such activities and the individuals involved in a future movie or TV series, as planned by my team,” he further explained.
Currently, there is no official response from the IPL authorities or franchises concerning the validity of the letter or the purported act. Chasing a target of 195, CSK started strong with 76 runs in the power-play, but SRH made a comeback with disciplined bowling. Ultimately, CSK struggled, and despite a nail-biting finish, SRH managed to secure the victory by ten runs.
Next, SRH will face Delhi Capitals at their home ground on Tuesday, while the five-time champions CSK gear up to clash with Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
