Madrid, Aug 19 (NationPress) Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno has encountered yet another injury setback in a career plagued by physical challenges in recent years.
The 33-year-old commenced his team's season opener against Oviedo on Saturday evening but was forced to exit the match just two minutes into the second half due to a hamstring injury in his left leg, as reported by Xinhua.
Moreno is expected to be sidelined for approximately four to six weeks; however, considering his previous injury record, it may be closer to the six-week mark.
"I don't want to make any predictions, but it’s incredibly frustrating to lack continuity, especially when I am doing everything possible to maintain my fitness," Moreno expressed.
"I will continue to seek ways to be on the field and play. I am committed to working hard, supported by my wonderful family and many who wish for my recovery and keep my spirits high," Moreno shared on Instagram.
In the past three years, Moreno has dealt with both hamstring and calf injuries, missing 14 matches last season, 20 during the ongoing 2023-2024 season, and 18 the year prior. These injuries have severely limited his appearances for Villarreal and have virtually ended his international career.
Villarreal kicked off their 2025/25 La Liga campaign successfully, securing a 2-0 victory over Real Oviedo in their first match of the season, with the newly promoted team reduced to ten men early in the game.
Next, they will focus on their upcoming clash with Girona FC at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
