Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 5 (NationPress) - Mumbai City FC has reached a mutual agreement to part ways with Spanish defender Tiri, coinciding with increasing uncertainty surrounding the start of the Indian Super League (ISL).
Mumbai City stated, "We can confirm that the club and Spanish centre-back Tiri have mutually parted ways. A true professional both on and off the pitch, Tiri has exemplified resilience, leadership, and created unforgettable moments during his tenure. From competing in the AFC Champions League to clinching the ISL Cup in the 2023/24 season, his contributions will always be cherished. Thank you, Tiri, for proudly representing #AamchiCity. We wish you all the best for your future endeavors." The announcement was made on X.
Tiri, aged 34, had signed a one-year extension with Mumbai City FC in June 2025. The upcoming 2025-26 ISL season would have marked his tenth season, a record for a foreign player in the league. He is the second foreign player to achieve 150 competitive appearances in the ISL.
His football career initiated at Cadiz CF in Spain's lower leagues before he joined Atletico Madrid's reserve team. He joined Mumbai City for the 2023-24 season, making 49 official appearances to date, and has also played for Atletico de Kolkata, Jamshedpur FC, and ATK Mohun Bagan.
Previously, City Football Group (CFG) divested its shares in Mumbai City FC, returning full control to its founding owners. The 2020-21 season saw the club create history by winning both the ISL League Winners' Shield and the ISL Cup, being the first team to achieve this double in a single season.
The club secured a second Shield in the 2022-23 season, remaining unbeaten throughout the league's 18 matches, an unprecedented feat in the ISL. Mumbai City FC also made history as the first Indian club to win a match in the AFC Champions League, marking a significant milestone for Indian football on the continental stage.
