New Delhi, Sep 17 (NationPress) As the World Para-Athlete Championships approach, Indian Para Athlete Navdeep Singh emphasized that he has put in extensive effort for this event and is thoroughly ready.
The gold medallist from the 2024 Paralympics is optimistic about the performance of all Indian athletes in the competition. He also took a moment to convey his birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recalling how the esteemed leader offered him encouragement and wise insights during their previous meeting.
When discussing his preparations for the tournament, Singh stated, “We are in training, and everything is progressing well. We’ll see how the competition unfolds, but we are determined to give our best,” Navdeep Singh shared exclusively with IANS.
Reflecting on the challenges he encounters as a para-athlete, he commented, “It is quite difficult. Regarding my disability, my height is less, and the javelin is a tall and substantial piece of equipment. It poses a challenge, but we find ways to manage.”
On the support provided by the federation to athletes, Singh remarked, “The federation is always there for us. They treat the players exceptionally well, and thanks to the federation, a major tournament has come to India. This is a world-class event. For the first time, the first Mundo track has been constructed in India, which is a significant achievement for the athletes.”
Singh earned his first gold medal at the Asian Youth Para Games in 2017, followed by a similar success at the 2021 World Para Grand Prix in Dubai.
After securing a bronze medal at the 2024 World Championships in Kobe, Singh emerged victorious as an Olympic champion, claiming the gold at the 2024 Paris Games.
Singh also expressed his birthday wishes to PM Narendra Modi, reminiscing about their prior encounters.
“It is always a pleasure to meet him. I have had the opportunity to meet him twice. I wish him a happy birthday. When I first met him in 2021, after the Tokyo Paralympics, he offered me his best wishes and shared how athletes lead lives filled with challenges but never give up. He wished me luck for my next Paralympics. Meeting him was a wonderful experience, and his encouragement motivated me to excel this time,” he added.
